The 68 Beers Project: Franziskaner Weissbier
By SteveR
Adventurous beer-drinker SteveR is on a mission to try the 68 out of 100 yet-untried Beers To Try Before You Die before the end of 2010.
I thought I’d start this exciting new project with this German Wheat Beer, as I already had a few bottles of it in the house. I’d picked them up at Lidl, where this highly-regarded 5% ABV beer was being sold at a mere £1.50 for a 500ml bottle.
Mr Protz says of this beer: “Creamy malt dominates the mouth but with powerful hints of spice and banana”.
I’m sure he’s right, but I’m surprised that he doesn’t mention that the beer also has a distinct taste of sausage about it. Seriously, it does. This means that it would probably go very well with a hearty German meal of bratwurst with sauerkraut and potatoes.
I’ll definitely have this beer again, especially as it’s so reasonably-priced at Lidl. As with other wheat beers, it’s really a warm weather drink. I’ll have some more when we eventually get some sunshine.
67 to go……
